The government screws up most programs it starts. Let the free market dictate which programs will be broadcast. The programs that attract a significant audience will attract advertising dollars and should be broadcast. If they can't support themselves financially then stations should not be forced to carry them. The free market usually works if government will get out of the way.

The Fairness Doctrine is hated by radio broadcasters, both left and right. It forces stations to put out two sides of an issue, even if there is no other side, and it would kill political talk radio. Can you imagine all the naysayers to climate change it would force on the air? Or all the people who are pro-war, every time an anti-war argument is put forward? There often are not two sides that are potentially right on every issue. This law would not be a good thing. It would force wrong opinions on the air. It would air wrong opinions otherwise not heard, like creationists, like intelligent design, like those who think solar flares are causing global warming. We don't need that.

The problem with the fairness doctrine was that it was used as cudgel on PC topics. Fairness did not work and will not work. But legislating free speech doesn't work. Limit my ability to offend is limiting free expression. Liberal are sly in their dislike of views counter to them and conservatives are idiots for baiting the liberal. Allow them both to be childish.
As liberals approach power they immediately wish to limit the debate. Goddard put it this way in Perroit le fue "Liberals are necessary for their sentimental thinking and the right for their idiocy."
