Kill your television. It is a far greater disconnect from reality than any drugs. It makes people stupid and lowers their attention span.
20 seconds of reading can be more informative than 20 minutes of TV.

I was beginning to feel that maybe I was the only one that had picked up on the utter nonsense commentary projected by CNN and Nighline on Rev. Wright's sermon and Obama's speech. I have actually stopped watching both of these channels in the hope that they will come back to earth and do some real commentary. Wolf Blitzer has really surprised me in the last few weeks with his rhetoric about Rev. Wright and Obama. Enough already. We have had our fill of the same old trashing of a few sentences made by a pastor that most of us had never heard of until now. His sermon meant nothing to me. I have more important issues to think about, namely the war, health care and our failing economy. Get back to the real issues that affect most of us. Rev. Wright is not running for office.

I couldn't agree with Brian Lowry more. The empty banality of the tv commentators, and their tame pundits is maddening. MSNBC will beat the same dead horse in all three of its prime time tv shows, and even have the same pundits, parroting the same chiches, on two of the three shows. Even poor Keith Olbermann is a victim. He's like a 1950's blond who has to hide his brains to get dates. Love his wit, insight, and intelligence, but I hate his format which demands blandness and stupidity.

Couldn't at least one brave producer let us have an intelligent show?

Great piece. But it's not only the media that is contributing to the production of morons in our overdeveloped Western societies. Too many parents don't give a damn and are frightened to discipline their monster children. (I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents). We are being de-humanised and we have to claim back our humanity. But I don't look to the mainstream media for a positive contribution. It has betrayed what passes for democracy.
