Journalists are not elected politiicans.
They are hired to investigate and report
their verifiable information to the public!
If my next door neighbor is plotting to do something stupid to me (even in the name of homeland security) I hope an investigative journalist, who got wind of it, gives me the heads up!
THANKS DANNY FOR ALL YOU DO!

We know very well the incompetence of CIA, mainly resulting from the 'soft approach' made, more or less, necessary
due to the infamous Church amendment of the 70s. Dismantling an intelligence operation goes quickly but takes years to rebuild (probably at least a generation). Weakminded Politicians have had no motivation to do any serious validation of CIA's performance until after 911, and even then, steps started seem quickly forgotten. Thus, we have the intelligence we deserve.

By the way, Journalists operate under the same laws as any Citizen, especially in wartime, when it concerns communicating knowledge of warplans (and Intelligence plans are vital parts of any war situation) to those not authorized to know, however the information was obtained. It doesn't matter weather the information was obtained accidentally or by a leak.

It would seem to be the journalist's, as well as any Citizen's duty to let those in charge of the war know what intelligence has been compromised and with great care make sure the information stays out of Enemy sight.
Should the Journalist, Citizen or 'Friendly' Visitors intentionally make such information accessible to (in this case) terrorist, or those that aid or abett acts of terror, they are Spies
and should be treated, as such.

I am sure Generals, Intelligence Committees and Civilian or Military Justice can handle this type of situation and would probably benefit a lot from KNOWING WHERE INCOMPETENCE EXISTS and might even be able to limit the damage; whatever the occasion, Accidental Snaffu or Gross incompetence.

Having the information is no licence for 'broadcasting' the same to the world

An old and interesting story. Interesting because we told that the CIA was competant these days, not like the old Bay of Pigs CIA. It is amazing that they trip over their reproductive organs doing stupid things. It looks like if they are wearing clown suits on the beltway their exit will be Langley.
This story has been though how many revisions over the years? And they still can't pull it off. We ought to sleep better at night knowing that Bush's cronies look after our rights and safety.
