When I was a teenager in Baltimore, I couldn’t wait to get home and in front of the TV to watch The Buddy Dean show.
They even had time to go to teen centers and I got to meet Buddy Dean & Jack Wells and even some of the committee members. I auditioned for the show, got called to join, but I couldn’t get released from school early enough to attend. What a broken heart for me. I still love to dance and luckily remember most of the dances we learned by watching the show. Thank you Baltimore for such a great show for us teens.

I’m a 63=year-old life-long resident of Pine Bluff, AR and knew Buddy Dean very well. Over the years I was an occassional guest on his talk show, ” The Morning Mayor ” as I was the only independent psychologist in town and free to speak the truth about mental health abuses, psychotropic med dangers, drugging children with addictive stimulants, etc and was grateful for Buddy’s courage in allowing my rare appearances. I was much less respectful of his racist attitudes which didn’t prevent his building a radio empire ( Delta Radio Network ) in this part of Arkansas and his becoming a very wealthy man. His wealth was magnified after his retirement when he was able to sell and resell his group of stations for millions of dollars to black business-men he carefully selected to assure the likelihood they would not be able to complete the purchase and he would get everything back to sell to the next sucker. This scam was repeated several times and in fact the Dean’s have often bragged they made more money after Buddy’s retirement and subsequent death than the substantial wealth Buddy earned when he was building the empire. Buddy’s Delta Radio Network now lies dormant and basically in ruins as is the town of Pine Bluff, Ar which Buddy proudly trumpeted for decades.

There was one post script to this story that Polar left out if I ever told him, After the on-air protest electrified Baltimore youth, and horrified the station brass, we received a call from the County Executive’s office in Baltimore. He wanted an urgent meeting. We went and were told that we had set back race relations by 20 years. The County Executive was none other than Spiro T. Agnew. the Dick Cheney of his era who went on to become Richard Nixon’s Vice President. He was later forced to resign because of a corruption scandal. Agnew, and his aide Vic Gold, were big critics of the “liberal media.” Thet baited their opponents as “nattering nabobs of negativity.”

What this article makes me think is that it is too bad the young people today would not do anything like that,it seems no one cares about anything,not the enviroment,not the plight of people of color,not people without medical insurance,nothing.
