I have used my Social Security number while on the Internet so now I am afraid to make any credit card purchases on-line because I think it will make my credit card account vulnerable. Right now I’m thinking about applying for a credit card online but I’m not sure that it is safe. Do you now what kind of security system they use at

It's wonderful to see conscientious people starting to question this Attila-like roll-over by technology on a purely human activity; the gathering of news. I think those of us who love democratcy and don't take it for granted should hold the technologists who are benefiting from the new production and distribution channel to account.

They don't call it "disruptive technology" for nothing.

It reminds me of the story I wrote in college years ago about "the future" where computers would be in every home and office, connected together to create an apparent perfect world. To keep it perfect the govt. had to sweep out the discontents like writers and place them safely away on asteroids so
there would be no ripples of mocking or boy-pointing-out-the nakedness-of-the emperor- syndrome on the surface of the perfect landscape.

Eventually it will work out but only if there is a recognition of some of the loss of value occuring in the mania to make the money and get the traffic. And that value must be restored to the new system.
