They are the voice of the people, not the president. My understanding of civics is that Congress makes the laws and the executive branch carries out their will. How far is that from today's reality? What we need is a weaker presidency, and someone like Ron Paul would bring principle to the position. Remember when Bush quipped about dictatorship being ok in the US only if he were the dictator? We must reduce the chance of that happening by strengthening the Congress and making it the will of the people again, rather than corporations. - which leads to talk of public financing of campaigns!
