Globalvision, Inc. is a leading independent media firm established in 1987,
with a thirteen-year track record of producing award-winning television
series, news programming and documentary films that have been embraced by a
growing global audience.
Now, Globalvision is moving online with the establishment of Globalvision
New Media.
The first project of the new company is MediaChannel.org, a not-for-profit,
media oriented supersite that is being produced for two well-established
international foundations, OneWorld Online and The Global Center.
Globalvision New Media has directed the creation of the MediaChannel site,
from branding and design through production and editorial direction.
"We're thrilled to have such an ambitious project as our first foray
online," said company President Rory O'Connor. "It is consistent with our
company's innovative approach to journalism---global, collaborative and
with a critical edge. The Internet will allow us to demonstrate our
capacity for providing diverse coverage and offer programming about a
changing world."
Danny Schechter, MediaChannel Executive Editor, added, "MediaChannel is the
first of several content-driven Web sites we plan to launch. We seek to
transform a news media landscape that is quickly modeling itself on the
old, bragging about content but offering little diversity, and treating Web
users more as consumers than citizens. We can and will offer high quality
information from all over the world in a socially responsible and
economically viable manner."
Globalvision New Media has an ambitious plan to roll out new Web sites and
other online projects. It is a partnership beteen Schechter, O'Connor and a
group of European investors. Its principal financial advisor is James R.
Rosenfeld, an investment banker and former President of the CBS Television
Network. Retired CBS Newsman Walter Cronkite is a MediaChannel Advisor.
