Bio

An activist in Students for a Democratic Society, civil rights, antiwar, and South African causes, Todd Gitlin is professor of culture, journalism, and sociology at New York University, and the author of eight books including: The Whole World Is Watching; Inside Prime Time; The Sixties: Years of Hope, Days of Rage; The Twilight of Common Dreams; and a new novel, Sacrifice. He edited Watching Television and has been a columnist for the New York Observer and San Francisco Examiner. He contributes to many periodicals, including the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Chicago Tribune, The American Prospect, Dissent, Mother Jones, etc. He lectures frequently in the United States and abroad on culture and politics.
